Neighborhood information

El Raval is situated between Barna's most important markets: La Boquería (El Mercat de Sant Josep) and El Mercat de Sant Antoni, making it the city's most densely-populated and one of the most controversial neighborhoods. Initially farmland, it started to grow through the Sant Pau del Camp church outside the city's walls, a corner to which you should go in order to go back in time to the 10th century without leaving Barcelona. It is presently one of the city's most multicultural areas, where immigrants have made space for themselves and live calmly with modern structures such as MACA (Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona), the Filmoteca, or the Centre de la Cultura Contemporania. From the Centre de la Cultura Contemporania you can enjoy an overlook boasting views of the Mediterranean.Its main streets are not the cleanest nor the city's safest, but it's inevitable not to miss out on them and discover curious stores and the most picturesque business alongside more modern architecture.

What we liked the most

  • The apartment has A/C, perfect for humid Barcelona summers
  • The kitchen has an oven and a dishwasher (perfect for those not wanting to hand wash their dishes) and opens out into the living room
  • The living room and dining area are separate with plenty of room for entertaining
  • La Rambla del Raval is just half a block from the apartment and can be seen from Bedroom 1

Things to keep in mind

  • Utilities, bed linen and towels are not included.
  • The washing machine is in the bathroom (this is normally in the kitchen in Spanish apartments)
  • Bedroom 1 has two single beds put together instead of one double bed
