La Barceloneta is traditionally the fisherman's neighborhood. It was built in the XVIII th Century when the inhabitants were expelled from El Born in order to build the Ciutadella, the fortress of Barcelona at that time.
Its triangular shape with the beach as its limit is one of the busiest places with people looking for sun, beach, good paella and seafood. Thousands of tourists and locals stroll along the beach on foot, by bike or even on roller skates in both summer and winter.
The most recognized image of Barceloneta are its narrow streets, balconies full of clothes hanging and what locals call a "1/4th of a house". Many of the homes that are currently in this area are so small to be considered as a whole house.
