Neighborhood information

Poblesec, which literally means, "dry village" in Catalan, was ironically Barcelona's natural port during many centuries until the reconstruction of the Ataranzas Reales in the 18th Century.

Due to its location outside the old city's walls, it ended up becoming a humble fishing village with a great mixture of people. In the middle of the 20th Century it would become known for its theaters, cabarets, and concert halls that today are in operation. Two examples are the Sala Apolo (with a full lineup of concerts for the young) or el Molino (for those nostalgic for old cabarets) a replica of Paris's famous Moulin Rouge that a Catalan businessman wanted in Barna.

At its back you'll find Montjüic ("mountain of the Jews" in Catalan), which thanks to the 1992 Exposition washed its face from its military space and barraca-filled zone in the post-Spanish Civil War period to become the magical mountain it is today. Full of parks, gardens, and museums, like the MNAC, one of Europe's most important Gothic and Roman art museums, or el Poble Espanyol, a space where you can see all of the arquitectural styles that have been present in Spain. You can also see the magic fountain spectacular here on weekends.

For the most athletically-inclined, not only can you enjoy its good running paths, but a large number of the sports facilities built for the 1992 Olympics are in this area.

What we liked the most

  • A large kitchen with everything you'll need.
  • Two beautiful new bathrooms
  • Big shared balcony

Things to keep in mind

  - Paral-lel is a large main street and it is currently under construction - The landlady speaks limited English, however her husband can translate.
