To the left of Passeig de Gràcia extends the other side of L'Eixample, which was constructed at the beginning of the 20th Century. Many middle-class Catalans and students from the Universitat de Barcelona (or UB) or the Escola Industrial, among others, take advantage of the area's proximity to their campuses, the nightlife, and the center of Barcelona in order to enjoy the city. At the other end of the area is Las Arenas the city's newest shopping mall with an overlook that lets you peek at Barcelona's skyline. You'll also find Antaño, an old bullring with over 100 years of history. Between these two points you'll find the "Gayfriendly" zone, or as residents call "Gaixample": stores, businesses, and various organizations make it one of the city's most authentic neighborhoods. In the lower part of the area you'll find the Mercat de Sant Antoni, the city's oldest and that is currently under renovation.
