Neighborhood information

Known for its gay friendliness, Chueca is very lively and friendly for people of all age; lately it has also earned the nickname “SoHo” of Madrid for its New York-feel. The center of the neighborhood is Plaza de Chueca and the Mercado de San Antón (just behind Plaza de Chueca), which has a variety of gastronomic offerings from different cuisines. The pedestrian part of Calle Fuencarral runs through this district and is one of the few commercial areas open on Sundays, making it perfect for those who like to do their shopping on the weekends.
