Lavapiés

While Embajadores may be its official name, it has become more common for Madrid locals to refer to this area as Lavapiés. While originally the city’s old judería, today it is a labyrinth of narrow streets, faded façades and a seamless blend of cultures for both immigrants and Spaniards alike. With a revival of the area in the 1980s among the young and artistic, Lavapies now has plenty of cultural offerings as well as an abundance of places to enjoy a caña or ethnic food. At the edge of the neighborhood is the Reina Sofía and the Teatro Valle-Inclán.

What we liked the most

  • The living area looks like a great place to hang out with your flatmates.
  • Lavapiés is really trendy, with lots of bars. It's really well connected to other areas, too.
