Your quiet, and central(ish) hangout
Do you want to live close to the centre of Madrid?
Do you want to live somewhere quiet?
You could do worse than Argüelles. Good universities and ancient monuments surround you. The local restaurants serve tasty tapas. Think fresh whitebait, Spanish omelettes and fried squid.
A short walk sees you in the city centre.
Sound like your thing?
What can I do here?
Train your brain: study at the Universidad de Comillas. It's the only Spanish university in the Times Higher Education 2013 ranking.
Walk to the city centre; admire the proud Spanish architecture.
Browse the perfume aisle at the huge El Corte Inglés department store. It's near metro Argüelles; the boutiques on Calle Alberto Aguileraare also worth a visit.
At night go to Los Bajos de Moncloa, behind McDonald's. It's a small party zone popular with students, clubbers and rockers.
On Sundays grab a blanket. Head to gorgeous green Parque del Oeste. People of all ages gather here. Some to run, some to read, some to play guitar and sing.
Wander the park; you'll find an old Egyptian temple called Temple of Debod. It was built 2,200 years ago in honour of the god Amun-Ra. Once it lay on the banks of the Nile, now it rests in Madrid.
In Spain, films are translated into Spanish. But Argüelles has an original-version cinema in Plaza de los Cubos. Easy.
