Chueca is a very lively neighborhood and well known for its gay friendliness. It is a big neighborhood attracting all ages and all types. Therefore, stores are also ranging from cheap toexclusive. Some people call Chueca the “SoHo” of Madrid with its New York-ish feel, some beautiful bright colored facades, and the many iron balconies. Plaza de Chueca is the center of activity, with a lot of people enjoying the terraces when weather allows for it, and in Mercado de San Antón just behind Plaza de Chueca, you can enjoy a variety of traditional tapas as well as sushi, Greek, and Italian dishes. Calle Fuencarral runs through the neighborhood and a majority of the stores are open on Sundays (something that is often hard to come by in Madrid!).
