Neighborhood information

Salamanca is known as the wealthy neighborhood in Madrid’s center, with some of the most exclusive boutiques. The Milla del Oro (Golden Mile) of streets, Calle Serrano, Calle Ortega y Gasset, and Calle Velázquez are Madrid’s most expensive and three of the ten most expensive streets in all of Spain. Salamanca is one of the few parts in Madrid with an urban structure, with square parallel streets where you can find a mixture of hip restaurants, expensive stores, and more unique boutiques on other streets such as Calle Goya, Calle Lagasca, Calle Claudio Coello, and Calle Ayala. As it was built as the aristocratic neighborhood, the architecture tends to have a 19th century bourgeoisie feel. Heading South on Calle Serrano brings you straight to Retiro, which is one of the largest parks in town. Last but not least, Salamanca is also home to the IE Business School which is ranked among the top 10 business schools in the world.

What we liked the most

  • If you have a car, you may negotiate with the landlord the possibility of including a parking spot in the garage
  • The apartment has a clean, crisp white interior
  • The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher (an uncommon amenity in Madrid), electric stove, and microwave
  • The apartment has air conditioning, perfect for hot Madrid summers!
  • The couch is leather, giving the apartment a luxurious flair in addition to the modern furniture
  • The double bed has an additional mattress below for guests

Things to keep in mind

  • While the apartment is an interior, it is incredibly luminous
  • There is a patio just outside the apartment with a swimming pool, but it is unfortunately closed and not suitable for swimming
