This ground floor, 1-bedroom apartment on the edge of Milan’s Naviglio Grande canal offers contemporary loft-style living in the most romantic neighborhood in the city. A narrow stone courtyard leads from the street and opens into a voguish two-level space with a modern kitchen highlighted with stainless steel touches and a comfortable bedroom with a gorgeous brick ceiling and amorous lighting.
While not as extensive, the canals of Navigli have often been compared to those of Venice, which is a 3-hour drive to the east. Lively by day, the neighborhood is a mecca for tourists and locals alike. It’s steeped in history, bustling with Milanese artists showcasing their works and lined with great little osterias where you can grab a bite to eat. Living in the area, you can witness idyllic sunsets every night, hop on the metro to visit shops and catch various events or, with a 30-minute walk, discover what’s happening downtown.
Suitable for: Professionals, Students, Erasmus
Navigli, fittingly named after the former canal system, is one of the most charming, romantic spots in the city. This area was once comparable to Venice, but unlike The Floating City, Navigli’s canals have remained untouched. This area is very popular among Milanese citizens, many of whom would assure you that the sunset there is one of the most memorable scenes you will ever see. Make sure not to miss the authentic market that takes place every last Sunday of the month. This canal based area is home to the Colonne di San Lorenzo, the best-known Roman Ruin in Milan.
