I am a classic millennial. There is little in the world that excites me to the point that I can't wait to get out of bed in a morning. But, if there's one thing that does it is brunch, AKA possibly the best invention of all time. There is nothing more perfect than waking up late on a weekend and stumbling upon a delicious (and large) stack of pancakes, a classic eggs benedict or even a Full English.

Despite being all fun and games, the hunger is real and I am not one for wandering the streets for hours in search of the perfect brunch. So, I've done the hard work for you all (I mean seriously, all those long difficult hours of eating) and picked out the best brunch spots in Madrid.

Juicy Avenue

In three words: Bagels, smoothies and juice.

My personal favourite, the OG smoothie bar of Madrid. Juicy Avenue has a great range of breakfast deals that cover everything from sweet treats to savoury bagels. You can then customise your deal for the drink you want. You can always opt for a morning coffee, a fresh juice or a tasty smoothie... or if you're me... why not all three?

Not feeling a breakfast deal? Don't worry just do what I do and opt for the regular menu which includes a bagel, crêpe or wrap of your choice and a smoothie, many of which are idyllic for brunch time.

Where?: Calle Fuencarral 93, Calle Hortaleza 25 or Plaza Alonso Martínez 7.

Federal

In three words: I'm in heaven.

This is the ultimate brunch spot in Madrid. It's such a well-known (not so well-kept) secret that on a weekend you really can struggle to get a table. However, it won't be a long one and it will be worth it.

Federal serves everything. I mean… not everything but every time I go I am so spoilt for choice. For me, (I am from the UK, the brunching/breakfast giant) this is one of the only places that you can get a stand-up eggs benedict.

Where?: Plaza de las Comendadoras 9.

Rodilla

In three words: Simple, classic and affordable.

Classic Spanish breakfast? Rodilla has you covered, or literally any independent Spanish bar or restaurant. With a coffee and toastada con tomate (toasted bread with tomato) coming in at under a mere €3, it's hard to say no. Savoury breakfasts not your thing? No worries, you can get it with mermelada (jam) instead.

You can even treat yourself and add a fresh orange juice from freshly squeezed oranges. I mean it won't break the bank after all. Make sure that you get there before 13:00 though if you don't want to miss out on the sweet breakfast deal.

Where?: All over the city- Rodilla is a chain, so you'll never be far from a good breakfast.

Ojalá

In three words: Refreshing, easy and great location (oops that's four).

Fancy brunching outside? Ojalá is the place for you. Sunday brunch has never been more relaxing. In this idyllic location you can just let the world pass you by and brunch on some tasty treats.

Not only is Ojalá one of Malasaña's most famous bars, it is also a top brunch spot. Serving everything from your typical Spanish dishes to some more exotic breakfast-lunch combos, you'll be spoilt for choice.

Brunch is served all day from 10:00-20:00, so you can make your way there calmy and whenever you want.

Where?: Calle San Andrés 1

Chocolatería San Ginés

In three words: Sweet weekend treat.

If you want to really go all out, visit the most iconic churro joint in all of Madrid. Still standing strong since 1894, not only is it a must see tourist spot, but it's also delicious.

You can get a shameless selfie outside and indulge in some of the nation's best-known dessert/breakfast sites.

Where?: Pasadizo de San Gines, 5

Brunch Club

In three words: True to its name.

Legit does what it says on the tin. A cute, little, central cafe just off Gran Via that has a lot to offer. If you're looking for vegan, vegetarian and/or gluten free options this may be your place.

Why the rush? Open until around 4/5, you really can take your time getting there. I mean... after all, it is the ultimate brunch stop.

Where?: Calle del Barco, 15

Carmencita Bar

In three words: Eggs, eggs, eggs.

I'm English, and I know a thing or 2 about how to cook a good egg, but my god have I been schooled! There is such a wide range of options that you really will not know what to choose, but one thing is for sure... it will be tasty. With big, big affordable breakfasts, Carmencita really does put the egg in eggcellent.

Full-up? Don't worry - Carmencita's sister, La Gringa also serves the same brunch menu on a weekend. Not sure you can make it? It's on the same street, so there really is no excuse.

Where?: Calle San Vicente Ferrer, 51

Roll Madrid

In three words: Stand-out American breakfast.

Love American food? I mean...Who can resist a stand-up American breakfast? After this, you'll be giving a standing ovation. Here you have the choice between a big breakfast or a little nibble, so it really will cater to all your cravings.

Roll also has a fabulous selection of drinks, so whether you're nursing a hangover or fancy a morning mimosa, Roll has got you covered.

Where?: Calle Amaniel, 23

The Toast Café

In three words: Cute, cosy and delicious.

Don't be fooled by the name, toast isn't all they do. An enchanting café in Chamberí that is not only aesthetically pleasing but is also extremely tasty. Toast has a seriously good selection of omelettes all with a bit of an edge. Seriously, a must try!

Have intolerances or allergies? You're taken care of, Toast clearly outline on their menu what contains what (even the obvious), so you'll be in safe hands dining here.

Where?: Calle Fernando el Católico, 50

Mür

In three words: The king of all combinations (okay maybe that's 5)

If you're feeling a little bit more exotic, generous or just want a few courses to your brunch, check out Mür. Keeping it simple but never plain, Mür compiles their menu to give you more courses depending on what you fancy. So not only do you have selection, but you also have multiple courses to look forward to.

The breakfast menu runs in the week from 09:00-13:00 (also fabulous) and the brunch menu on the weekend, so either way, you'll have your fair share of treats.

Where?: Plaza Cristino Martos, 2
