James Joyce, St Stephen’s Green, friendly community, and many shopping streets – all that can be found in Dublin, in our opinion, one of the most underrated cities in the world. Spotahome has gathered 5 things we absolutely love about Dublin, based on the tales from the locals as well as our own experiences during our travels.

1. Markets

Dublin is home to over 20 markets, ranging from food and produce to various antiques and other bits and bobs. One of the most recommended markets in Dublin is The Dublin Flea Market (Co-op on Newmarket Square, last Sunday of every month from 11am-5pm) where you can find a variety of handcrafts, food, live music and anything else your vintage heart desires. Best part – it’s located indoors, fully protected by the sometimes unpredictable Dublin weather.

2. Picturesque parks

Dublin hosts one of Europe’s largest city parks – Phoenix Park, which celebrated its 350th birthday in 2012. With many trees, open green areas, several monuments and even a Zoo, this park is often a perfect hangout and picnic spot for both families and students looking to escape the Dublin city buzz.

3. Grafton Street

Whether it’s Christmas or not, Grafton Street is always lively and buzzing, full of shoppers as well as talented buskers. In 2008, it ranked as the fifth most expensive main shopping street in the world, making it a must see place while living in Dublin.

4. Free museums

Looking for things to do in Dublin for free? Out of 37 museums in the city, National Museum of Ireland: Natural History, National Museum of Ireland: Archaeology, National Gallery, Dublin City Gallery: The Hugh Lane and many others are all free to visit!

5. Festivals

Dublin hosts some of the most diverse festivals – our favorites include:

Bonus point: It’s near the beach!

And Spotahome has many flats, rooms and houses available for rent just minutes away from the beach.
