Neighborhood information

Schaerbeek: There’s a lot more to this multicultural district than just its “City of Donkeys” nickname. While donkeys can still be seen in the Josaphat Park, this neighborhood also features beautiful cherry tree lined streets. This suburb is often crowned as an equal to Notting Hill, but it beats the famous London district in its reasonable real estate prices. The western part of Schaerbeek is a home to a Turkish community and the Moroccan, Spanish Congolese and Asian communities also seem to prevail here. While the district hosted only 600 people in the 16th century, it’s now home to almost 130,000 inhabitants. Numerous of art deco and art nouveau houses can be found here, including the Maison Autrique and the town hall. The Josaphat Park is a great escape into nature!
