Prosperidad, lovingly called La Prospe by residents, is located in the southeastern part of the Chamartín district. Bordered by Avenida de Príncipe de Vergara to the west, the M-30 to the east, Avenida de América to the south, and Calle Sánchez Pacheco to the north, the neighborhood was originally settled in the 1860s as construction workers and artisans were looking for places to live as they were being priced out of the new construction in Chamberí and Salamanca. The main commercial artery of the neighborhood is Calle López de Hoyos, one of the longest streets in all of Madrid. Other points of interests are the Torres Blancas and the Auditorio Nacional de Música. Prosperidad is known as a quiet, residential neighborhood with lots of families and older residents and is best known for the Intercambiador de Avenida de América bus terminal, with service to Eastern suburbs such as Alcalá de Henares along with ALSA (national bus service) buses to other cities such as Barcelona.
