Your Barcelona home by the beach (yay!)
Deep green sea.
Welcome to the Mediterranean.
La Barceloneta was once home to fisherfolk and their families. It still has that small-town atmosphere.
Life here revolves around the beach. High tide and low. Fair weather and foul. Long walks. Parasols. Sunbathing.
But there’s a lot more that that. You’ve excellent restaurants, clubs and cafés each way you turn.
You’re a 15-minute walk from iconic La Rambla and the Port of Barcelona.
Looking for sun, sea and central?
Get yourself to La Barceloneta.
What can I do here?
Rollerblade, cycle or roll along the Passeig Marítim (the promenade).
It’s 1.25 km long. Palm trees line the west side. The east faces the beach. It’s a place to catch up with your friends. Watch the world go by. No rush.
Barraca is a seafood restaurant with epic beach views. Some say the paella is the bomb. Others … don’t. You pays your money and you takes your chances.
Relax. Swim in the sea. Soak up the sun. Get a beach bat and a ball. Take on the world and win. Feeling fit? Join in a game of beach volleyball.
Go for a wander.
Admire the really-rather-odd Homenatge a la Barceloneta monument. It’s a wobbly sculpture sat in the middle of the beach. It looks like 4 wooden huts piled one on top of the other. Careless.
Contemplate the architecture of the landmark W Hotel. It’s big, it’s glass, it looks like a sail. Some say it blocks the view. Not us.
What do you call a person who lives by the sea anyway? Paralian.
La Barceloneta is an independent part of Barcelona with a distinct identity. That’s why you’ll see blue-and-yellow flags hanging from balconies in this neighbourhood. Unique.
