Located to the left of Les Rambles between two of Barcelona’s major markets, El Mercat de Sant Josep (better known as La Boquería) and El Mercat de Sant Antoni, the former red light district is a diverse and thriving area that’s ripe for exploring. You’ll find the MACBa (Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona), the Filmoteca, and the Centre de la Cultura Contemporania nestled in this district as well. This is a great area to shop for clothes, and though the increased gentrification is pushing out small businesses, you can still find more of a variety than the designer stores in L’Eixample. This area is definitely worth visiting!

What we liked the most

  • The location, El Raval, is very ideal for those who want to explore Barcelona. Not only is the apartment close to many cultural attractions, it is also not far from the beach
  • All rooms have double beds, so tenants can stretch out!
  • Three of the rooms have a personal sink, which can free up a lot of waiting time for the bathroom
  • The rooms all have big windows or a balcony, which is great for letting in lots of natural light
  • The apartment is well connected to the rest of the city by metro and bus

Things to keep in mind

  • There is one bathroom to be shared among all tenants, but most rooms have private sinks
  • The apartment does not come with an oven, microwave, or TV.
  • You'll get good exercise going up the stairs, as the building is not equipped with an elevator
  • Though cleaning service is included in the rent, cleaning products need to be purchased by the tenants.
