Cinecittà
Italian Hollywood

Overview
Lights, camera, action!

The Italian film industry has a lot to thank Cinecittà for. After all, it's home to Cinecittà Studios, founded in 1937 in a bid to put Italy back on cinema's front line.

The project was a success, but the studios have been through a lot. The site was bombed during WW2. For 2 years after the war finished, it also served as a camp for displaced people.

What can I do here?

Did we talk about movies enough yet?

Oh, well ... we're going to continue anyway. After all, the name does mean 'Cinema City'.

If you're here, you should check out Cinecittà Studios; see the sets of world-famous movies.

What's that? You want something non-cinema-related?

Take a trip to Cinecittà market. You won't go hungry. There are 2 restaurants that cook excellent food fresh from the market stalls. Make your choice:

  • Macelleria Bisteccheria Ulivieri for meat.
  • Pescheria Agraja for fish.

You'll be paying restaurant, not market prices, though.

To the east, close to Tor Vergata University, you can find the Hop & Pork. The 'Hop' part of the name refers to the fact that the bar sells an excellent variety of craft beers. The 'Pork' refers to ... well, pork.

Beer and cold cuts. Heaven!

Film fact
- Ben-Hur - La Dolce Vita - Romeo & Juliet (Zeffirelli) - Gangs of New York

All of these blockbusters were produced in Cinecittà Studios. Cinematic!
