Malasaña is quiet by day, full of lots of unique shops, cafés, and restaurants, but at night is full of rich nightlife accommodating all walks of life. In the 1980s, Malasaña was home of the famous Movida Madrileña, which gave rise to Spanish pop culture icons such as film director Pedro Almodóvar. In addition, the apartment is close to many university campuses, such as the Alberto Aguilera campus of the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas, home of ICAI and the ICADE Business School.

Neighborhood information

Malasaña is both traditional and alternative. If you enjoy being out and going for drinks, this is the neighborhood for you. By day, the barrio is rather quiet with lots of charming boutiques and restaurants, while at night it transforms into a nightlife hub with an impressive amount of bars and music venues. The style of the neighborhood is defined by traditional 19th century buildings with painted facades, with the Plaza del 2 de Mayo at its core. The Movida Madrileña in the 1980’s thrived here and the creative spirit lives on with Malasaña being home to many of the city’s up-and-coming new businesses along streets such as Corredera de San Pablo and Calle Pez.
