The Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR Berlin) was founded in 2009 through the merger of the Berlin School of Economics and the FHVR Berlin, and today welcomes around 12,000 students. It is one of Germany's largest universities of applied sciences for business and economics. HWR Berlin runs two campuses: Campus Schöneberg, the main hub, where the Business and Economics faculties are based, and Campus Lichtenberg, home to Law, Public Administration, Cooperative Studies and Police and Security Management. The school is known for its strong dual programmes, its applied research focus and a tight network of more than 150 partner universities worldwide.

HWR Berlin is one of the most international universities of applied sciences in Germany, with more than 150 partner institutions and around 800 incoming exchange students every year. The International Office handles applications, course registration and the buddy programme, and the language centre offers German courses for incoming students. Berlin itself does the rest: a public-transport ticket that covers the whole city, cheap flights across Europe, a strong nightlife and student associations like ESN HWR organising weekly Stammtische, day trips to Potsdam and weekend escapes to Dresden or the Baltic coast.
Campus Schöneberg sits on Badensche Straße, a 15-minute ride from Mitte. The most common routes:

According to the Spotahome Rent Index 2026, these are the average monthly prices by accommodation type in the four neighbourhoods around Campus Schöneberg (Schöneberg, Friedenau, Wilmersdorf and Tempelhof):
| Accommodation type | Average price | Properties |
|---|---|---|
| Room in a shared flat | 640 € - 825 € | 186 |

The most popular option for students are rooms in Berlin, with average prices ranging from 640 €/month in Wilmersdorf to 825 €/month in Friedenau. Schöneberg leads on bills-included listings (98 %), Friedenau goes one step further with 100 % of rooms including utilities, while Wilmersdorf sits at 72 % and Tempelhof at 73 %.
Start the search 2–3 months before your semester begins. Berlin's market moves fast, especially for September and April starts; rooms under 700 €/month with bills included tend to disappear within days. Erasmus students should apply as soon as they receive their acceptance letter from HWR Berlin, ideally in May for the winter semester and in November for the summer semester.
Every listing goes through a verification process before it is published, with photos, a video tour and a written description. If the property does not match the listing on the day you move in, you report it through your Spotahome profile within the first 24 hours, and the Spotahome team helps you resolve the situation: mediation with the landlord, relocation to an alternative property or whatever makes the arrangement match what was promised.
The deposit is usually one or two months' rent, paid directly to the landlord before move-in. The exact amount is shown on the listing. In properties marked with the "Deposit protected" label, if the landlord does not return your deposit within three months after move-out and you have met the terms of your contract, Spotahome refunds the deposit directly. Spotahome also lists many properties that require no deposit at all — you can filter them in the search to only see those.
No. A valid passport or ID, your enrolment letter from HWR Berlin (or proof of work) and a payment method are enough to send the booking request. Unlike traditional Berlin landlords, Spotahome does not ask for a Schufa report, German income or a guarantor upfront. Once the landlord accepts your booking, they may request proof of income (solvency) and bank account details to finalise the contract.
The monthly rent always covers the rent itself, the property tax and the building service charges (Hausgeld). Utilities (electricity, gas, water, Wi-Fi) are included in most of the rooms and apartments around Campus Schöneberg, although it varies per property. We recommend reading each listing's description carefully so you know exactly what's in and what's out, since some landlords offer optional services on top (weekly cleaning, parking, etc.). Personal items and food are never included, and address registration (Anmeldung) depends on the property — each listing states whether the landlord allows it.
