Tempelhof
Because I’m a outdoorsy urbanite looking for a multicultural playground.

You’ll love this...
Tempelhof is a metropolitan fairy tale. A mix of abandoned airfields, overgrown railways, modern swimming pools, and hip festivals.

But you won’t love this...
It is relaxed. Which is great if you didn’t move here for the nightlife. If you did, might we suggest neighbouring Neukölln.

Will I like living here?...
If you like outdoorsy stuff, this area of the city will be perfect for you.

The abandoned airfield at Berlin Tempelhof Airport is now a park, with huge green spaces and long paved runways. You have to run a kite down one of them at least once – there’s nothing quite like it. It’s also host to festivals and the Hipster Olympics.

In the summer you can head to Sommerbad Neukölln. This outdoor swimming pool has something for everyone. Olympic length lanes for the serious athlete, swim-classes for the kids, and the city’s longest water slide for cautious daredevils.

Go to Südgelände Nature Park to experience untouched nature. (Or rather, a place where nature has taken back what it used to own.)

Walk along abandoned railway tracks past decaying facades covered in natural foliage. There are art installations too, ones that don’t hurt the feeling of the wilderness around you.

And if you’re bored...
Let us be clear – Tempelhof is awesome. But should you ever get bored here, you are neighbours with some of the world’s most happening districts.

The eclectic atmosphere in Schöneberg, the trendy clubs in Kreuzberg, the fancy dining and fashionable shopping in Mitte, and bohemian cafés in Neukölln. All just a quick trip on The S- or U-bahn away.

Anything else?
Of course, there’s stuff to do indoors as well.

The planetarium is here. It has a fascinating daily show and hosts seminars – and even the occasional musical performance.

And did you know?…
...The aforementioned Tempelhof airport has enough history for a city in itself.

It was the site of some of the biggest Nazi rallies. It was a “gate to freedom” during the years of the GDR (thousands upon thousands people fled the communist dictatorship to West Berlin and travelled from the airport).

Today it’s story is not so dramatic. But it’s a great spot to spend a weekend.

Move here to be near:
* Tempelhofer Feld * Wilhelm-Foerster Observatory and Planetarium * St. Matthäus Kirchhof Cemetery * KaDeWe * and the Museum of Unheard of Things

Getting to and from the airport...
You can take a taxi from Schönefeld Airport in just over 20 minutes.
