The one place you have to visit is the Matadero art centre.
Matadero means slaughterhouse. And from 1911 until 1996, that's what this vast complex was. Now it's used to create instead of destroy.
You can see films and art shows, random creative events and conferences. You can meet friends at the bar. It has a terraza for hot summer nights. And more. So much more.
If you want to be locked in a room with your friends for 75 minutes (and who doesn't?) visit Escape 666 Room on Calle General Palanca.
If that sounds too ... close ... try Madrid Río. Yes it's a river, but it's also a big park. It has walking-and-bike trails, play-and-sports areas, ponds and fountains and bridges.
